Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry attacked Israel, saying it was responsible for an “unprecedented humanitarian crisis”.

In a statement, Shoukry rejected what he called “a policy of fact-finding and evasion of responsibility followed by the Israeli side.”

The Egyptian statement came in response to the statements of the Israeli Foreign Minister calling for the reopening of the Rafah crossing and holding Egypt responsible for preventing a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Shoukry stressed that Israel is “solely responsible for the humanitarian catastrophe faced by the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.”

The Egyptian Foreign Minister considered that the Israeli control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, and the Israeli military operations in the vicinity of the crossing, and the resulting exposure of the lives of aid workers and truck drivers to imminent dangers, are the main reason for the inability to bring aid through the crossing.

The Foreign Minister strongly condemned “the desperate attempts of the Israeli side to hold Egypt responsible for the unprecedented humanitarian crisis facing the Gaza Strip, which is a direct result of the indiscriminate Israeli attacks against Palestinians for more than seven months, which have killed more than 35,000 citizens, most of them women and children.”

Shoukry called on Israel to assume its legal responsibility as the occupying power by allowing aid to enter through other land ports under its control.
