The new Egyptian city of Rafah, on Egypt’s eastern border with the Gaza Strip in northern Sinai, is preparing to receive thousands of residents in fully equipped housing units provided by the Egyptian state.

Major General Dr. Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha, Governor of North Sinai, announced earlier that the new city of Rafah will be offered for subscription to citizens during the governorate’s celebration of the National Day next April 25.

Shousha stressed that the first priority in the application will be for the people of Rafah, and the second priority will be for the people of Sheikh Zuweid, pointing to the interest of the political leadership and all state institutions in the development and reconstruction of Sinai through the implementation of a number of national projects in various cities of the governorate, pointing to the interest in the various villages of the governorate, especially the villages and gatherings returning.

The “New Rafah” city was established as an alternative to the Old City of Rafah, and its data shows that it includes more than 10,000 housing units, in addition to 400 Bedouin houses, and all the services required in any modern city, and the first phase includes 1,400 housing units that have been completed, out of a total of about 4,500 units in the first phase.

It is noteworthy that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi gave on March 1, 2018, the signal to start the construction of the new city of Rafah, and the city of Salam Misr, in the North Sinai governorate.
