The African Group Governors of the “Brighton” and “Woods” Foundations met in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, from 1 to 3 August, where they announced their commitment to boosting intra-African trade and driving sustainable development on the continent.
Under the theme “Facilitating intra-African trade and stimulating sustainable development in Africa”, the participants discussed ways to enhance regional and economic integration among the continent’s countries.
The “Abuja Declaration” came at the end of three days of meetings, where the governors stressed the importance of strengthening the payment system on the continent, considering that empowering the private sector and strengthening its partnership with the public sector are essential elements in achieving comprehensive development.
The declaration called on all regional and international institutions to increase support provided to African countries, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The meetings witnessed extensive discussions on digital transformation and its impact on improving payment systems in Africa, in addition to exploring opportunities provided by regional and international development institutions to support economic growth on the continent.
Libya was among the participating countries with a delegation headed by the Minister of Finance of the Government of National Unity, Khaled Al-Mabrouk, in addition to the attendance of finance ministers and central bank governors from various African countries.
These meetings are an important step towards enhancing cooperation and integration between African countries to achieve common development goals.
