The residential building for “Doctors Without Borders” employees in the Sudanese city of Omdurman was subjected to direct bombardment, according to what the Sudanese newspaper Al-Rakouba reported.
The newspaper reported that the team members were not harmed, but there were many injuries among other residents in the area, and the bombing caused damage to the upper floor of the building.
This incident comes in light of the continuing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has led to a severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan since its outbreak in mid-April.
“Doctors Without Borders” called for an urgent and rapid expansion of the humanitarian response in Sudan, warning that the world is turning a blind eye to the massive disaster to which millions of people in the country are exposed.
Health centers in Sudan suffer from repeated attacks, as Doctors Without Borders teams were exposed to repeated security incidents, including looting and theft of vehicles. The most prominent of these incidents was the armed attack on the main hospital in the city of El Fasher, which led to it being out of service.
The organization’s medical teams were forced to withdraw from Wad Madani Hospital in Gezira State, which is the only hospital that provides treatment service to hundreds of thousands of Sudanese, which further aggravates the health situation in the country.
Reports indicate that more than 15 public and private hospitals in Sudan have been completely out of service, which reflects the magnitude of the challenges facing the health sector in the country amid the ongoing conflict.
