The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, met in Dubai with the head of the “Ihya Libya” bloc, Aref Nayed.
“During the meeting, a detailed and comprehensive exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa took place, with a focus on the emerging situation in Libya, including issues of preparation and holding of general elections,” the statement said.
The statement continued: “The importance of reaching an early settlement of the Libyan crisis on the basis of a national consensus of political forces in accordance with the aspirations of the people of this country and in a way that serves to ensure its unity, territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the Libyan state,” the statement continued.
At the beginning of June 2023, in the Moroccan city of Bouznika, the Libyan Joint Committee “6+6”, which included members of the High Council of State and the House of Representatives, agreed on the basis of elections for the Libyan National Assembly, which should consist of two chambers (House of Representatives and Senate), as well as the election of the head of state, and it was decided to hold elections within 240 days of the issuance of the legislative framework.
