The Belarusian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that tanks belonging to one of the army brigades had been deployed on the border with Ukraine, as part of strengthening its forces in the border areas.
The ministry confirmed in its statement that the military units are ready to carry out the tasks assigned to them, and that military equipment has already been loaded onto railway platforms in preparation for its transport to specific locations.
The development comes a day after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that Belarusian air defense forces had shot down several air targets in the south of the country, believed to be attack drones originating from Ukraine.
Lukashenko ordered the reinforcement of the armed forces in the Gomel and Mazyr regions in the south of the country near the Ukrainian border.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin also announced that additional military units of special operations forces, ground forces and missile forces, including the “Polonez” missile systems and the “Iskander” complexes, had been deployed in response to ongoing developments in Ukraine as well as in the neighboring Russian Kursk region.
These measures come amid growing tensions between Belarus and Ukraine, amid fears of an escalation of military activity in the region.
