Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud touched down in Cairo on Friday for critical discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The visit comes at the invitation of El-Sisi as the two nations seek to bolster bilateral ties and confer on regional security matters.

According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the Somali president was welcomed by senior Egyptian officials upon his arrival. His agenda includes talks with El-Sisi as well as Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and other top ministers.

The Egyptian government has consistently demonstrated unwavering support for the independence and territorial unity of Somalia. In particular, they have strongly condemned a controversial agreement recently signed by Ethiopia with Somaliland. This agreement has been criticized for violating the independence and unity of Somalia, sparking concerns within the international community.

President Hassan Sheikh’s visit to Cairo is expected to solidify the collaboration between Somalia and Egypt on various fronts, including economic, political, and security matters. The leaders are likely to engage in discussions aimed at fostering regional stability and addressing common challenges faced by the Horn of Africa.
