Libyan authorities arrested Ali Bousbiha al-Hasnaoui, the leader of the reconciliation team on behalf of presidential candidate Saif al-Islam Gaddafi.
The National Assembly of Libyan Parties issued a statement condemning the arrest, which came against the backdrop of Hasnawi’s demands for inclusive presidential and parliamentary elections, and his refusal to exclude Saif al-Islam from the electoral race.
The General Secretariat of the Gathering expressed its commitment to continuing its work and communication with all relevant parties to monitor these violations and ensure the release of Al-Hasnawi.
The National Human Rights Committee, headed by Ahmed Hamza, also condemned the arrest, and called for resistance to injustice and authoritarianism that threaten social order and civil peace in the country.
The statement described the arrest as a shame and demanded his immediate release and an apology, noting the damage to the sanctity of Hasnawi’s home and the morale of his family during the arrest.
Bousbiha is a key figure in national reconciliation efforts and is seen as a symbol of national unity in this period in Libya.
