A “tuktuk” driver from Luxor, southern Egypt, named Mohamed Yahya, occupied many Egyptians on social networking sites, after he showed rare honesty by returning a large sum of money to its owner.

Yahya found a black bag thrown on the road in the village of Austria, affiliated with the Esna center, south of Luxor, containing 350,000 pounds. Despite the large value of the sum, the driver began searching for the owner of the bag to deliver the money.

Yahya explained that he found the bag near a desert entrance, and when he opened it, he was surprised by the large amount of money inside, in addition to a medical referral letter to a hospital.

Yahya confirmed that curiosity did not prompt him to count the amount, because it was not his money. An hour later, a car passed in the area, and he asked its passengers about a black bag that they had lost in that area.

Concern appeared on the faces of the passengers, but Yahya initially denied finding the bag to test the family and confirm that they were the original owners of the money.

The medical letter became decisive evidence of the truth of the family’s words, as the man told Yahya that the bag contained a sum of money and a stamped medical letter from a hospital. Then Yahya was sure that they were the owners of the amount, and his heart was relieved.

Yahya said that the owner of the bag was overwhelmed with joy, as it later became clear that he was coming from Cairo with his family to treat one of his sons in the general hospital.

Yahya added that because they were so happy about the return of the bag, the man gave him two packages of money, but he refused.

This story caused an uproar on social media, with many praising the honesty of the tuktuk driver, who refused to seize the large sum that would have enabled him to solve his financial problems and pay off his debts, preferring honesty and integrity.
