An Algerian delegation is expected to arrive in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott in March, including officials and professionals in the field of fisheries, to discuss details related to quotas and fishing fees in fish-rich marine waters.
Algerian Minister of Fisheries and Fishery Products Ahmed Badani confirmed the existence of a preliminary agreement between the two countries to enable Algerian dealers to fish in Mauritanian waters.
Badani said the delegation, which consists of officials and fishing professionals, will discuss issues related to fishing fees and seek agreement on fishing quotas and areas.
This visit comes within the framework of the strategic cooperation between Algeria and Mauritania in the field of fisheries, which began in 2013.
As part of this cooperation, Algerian fishing vessel captains were sent to Mauritania for training, with the aim of promoting understanding on fishing operations and related logistical aspects.
The move comes in the context of flourishing relations between the two countries, as last week saw the opening of two fixed border crossings and the laying of the foundation stone for the project to establish a free zone for trade and industrial exchange, which is a vital tributary to promote trade and investment between Algeria and Mauritania.
