Algeria’s National Building Movement announced the candidacy of current President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, while the Movement of Society for Peace nominated its president, Abdelali Hassani.
The National Building Movement, through its president Abdelkader Bengrina, confirmed the candidacy of current President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a second term, describing Bengrina as “the knight on whom the movement will bet” to lead the country towards further progress and stability.
On the other hand, the Movement of Society for Peace “Hamas”, known for its affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood, announced the candidacy of its president Abdelali Hassani for the presidential elections, the first participation of the movement in the presidential elections since 1995.
In previous stages, Hamas supported the late President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in three electoral cycles, while boycotting the elections in 2014 and 2019, but this year she returns to the political scene with Hassani’s candidacy, stressing her desire to present a political alternative that reflects the aspirations of the Algerian people.
The date of the last Algerian presidential elections was advanced by a decision of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as the elections were scheduled to be held in December, but their advance came after a meeting chaired by President Tebboune in the presence of senior officials of the state’s sovereign institutions.
