Algeria stressed the need to end external interference in Libya and called on foreign parties to remove their hands from the country, with the aim of enabling African and UN efforts to integrate and converge in order to achieve security and stability.

This came during a speech delivered by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, during the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

Etaf urged the Libyan parties to take advantage of the national reconciliation conference scheduled in the Libyan city of Sirte next April to restore cohesion among the Libyan people.

“Algeria encourages the Libyan parties and calls on them to actively engage in UN efforts to provide the necessary conditions for the organization of elections as a lasting and sustainable solution to the protracted crisis in this country,” Attaf said.

Attaf continued: “My country reaffirms the need to end external interference and calls on foreign parties to remove their hands from Libya, to enable efforts, both African and UN, to integrate and converge in achieving the ultimate goal of enabling brotherly Libya to open up to a new era of security, safety, tranquility and well-being.”
