The Algerian Republic expressed its strong condemnation of the French government’s decision to recognize the autonomy plan for the Western Sahara region.
The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement that “Algeria will draw the conclusions and consequences that result from this decision,” holding the French government “fully and completely responsible” for its repercussions.
The text of the statement read: “It seems that the colonial powers, old and new, know how to get along and understand each other, and how to extend a helping hand to each other.”
The statement accused France of seeking to “distort the facts, support the colonial reality, and provide support for Morocco’s alleged and illusory sovereignty over the Western Sahara region.”
Last year, Algeria confirmed that Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara confirms the “alliance of the occupiers.”
The Algerian Foreign Ministry considered this announcement to be a “flagrant violation of international law, Security Council resolutions, and UN General Assembly regulations.”
It is worth noting that the issue of the Western Sahara region is considered a long-standing dispute between Morocco and the Polisario Front, supported by Algeria, as each party claims sovereignty over the region. Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara has not been internationally recognized, and the issue remains a matter of dispute in the United Nations.
