The Minister of Interior in the Libyan interim government, Imad Trabelsi, announced a plan to evacuate the security services from the city of Tripoli after Ramadan, following the events at the Ras Jedir border crossing.
Trabelsi confirmed in a press conference that the security presence in the capital will be limited to police, ambulance, and criminal investigation personnel.
Trabelsi said that his ministry will maintain all border crossings, stressing that there will be no tolerance for “chaos, smuggling or misuse of the country’s wealth,” and that working at state ports is the prerogative of the Ministry of Interior and its agencies.
Trabelsi announced in February that an agreement had been reached to evacuate Tripoli from armed groups, following clashes that killed 10 people in the capital.
Among these evacuated agencies are General Security, Stabilization Support, and Deterrence, as well as the 111th Brigade, the 444th Combat Brigade, and the Directorate Support Force, which carry out their tasks independently and are not subject to the directives of the Interior and Defense Ministries.
