Former Sudanese Prime Minister and head of the Taqaddam Coordination Abdalla Hamdok announced the possibility of holding a meeting between the parties to the conflict in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
In statements to Al-Sudani newspaper, Hamdok said that his talks with the Egyptian leadership focused on the possibility of inviting Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Sovereignty Council, and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of the Rapid Support Forces, to Cairo with the aim of stopping the war, noting that Egyptian officials welcome the idea.
Hamdouk stressed the continuation of efforts to communicate with Burhan and Hemedti to end the conflict, adding that Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, expressed his readiness to host meetings related to the war in Sudan, describing his visit to Egypt as “key”, hinting at the consensus of visions between the two sides on the lack of a military solution to the crisis and the need for political dialogue.
Hamdouk pointed out that the Egyptian leadership agreed to encourage the leaders of the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to meet in Cairo, after the failure of previous attempts to organize such a meeting in Addis Ababa and Entebbe and stressed that Egypt plays a role in trying to resolve the Sudanese crisis, noting that the meetings that took place in Manama between Shams al-Din al-Kabbashi and Abdul Rahim Dagalo made a major breakthrough.
Hamdok denied any bias in favor of the RSF, stressing that he presented a coordination vision of “progress” to both parties and that the RSF accepted the discussion, while Burhan was adamant about holding any meeting only in Port Sudan, but they eventually agreed to meet in Addis Ababa.
