A disabled child in Morinánia was raped and died under mysterious circumstances, sparking a wave of grief and anger among local residents.
The child “Mahfouz Ould Mamoun” went missing near his home last Saturday, and then was found lying in one of the abandoned buildings in the neighborhood of “Ambaraka and Emaara” in the city of Atar, in the state of Adrar, and was transferred to the hospital where he breathed his last.
A medical examination revealed that he had been tortured, severely blows to the head and neck, and sexual rape that resulted in his death.
For her part, Minister of Social Work, Childhood and Family, Safia Bent Entah, called on the authorities in the province of Adrar to arrest the criminals and speed up the pace of investigations to uncover the details of this crime.
The incident was also highlighted in a video on social media platforms, where the child is seen walking down a street before being lured into the abandoned building by an unknown person.
Social media addressed the state of resentment and anger of Mauritanian society, which demanded the imposition of deterrent penalties on the perpetrators and the intensification of efforts to uncover the identity of those responsible for the crime.
A demonstration was also organized during the child’s funeral, with participants chanting slogans calling on the authorities to act quickly to identify the perpetrator and address the problem of abandoned buildings used as crime scenes.
