A stage platform collapsed in Mexico during an election event in the north of the country, leaving at least 9 dead and 63 others injured.
Samuel Garcia, governor of the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, said that nine people were killed, including a child, and 63 others were injured when a platform collapsed during an election event for the Citizens Movement party, on Wednesday night.
The collapse of the theater was attributed to strong winds that struck the area during a rally for Mexican presidential election candidate Jorge Alvarez Mainz.
Hours after the accident, Maines posted a tweet on the “X” platform, in which he announced that “he was fine and unharmed” at his electoral rally in the city of San Pedro Garcia.
Mainz stressed that “the most important thing at the moment is providing the necessary care to the victims.”
The governor of Nuevo Leon asked residents to stay in their homes, warning of strong thunderstorms in the area, citing the incident.
Jorge Alvarez Mainz, 38 years old, represents the Citizens’ Movement party in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for June 2.
