The Italian news agency “Nova” reported today, Friday, that the French capital Paris hosted in recent days a technical-level meeting attended by representatives from France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Italy, focusing on forming a joint military force in Libya at the request of the United States.
The agency quoted a Libyan source whose identity was not disclosed as saying that the meeting aimed to “verify and study joint projects for the benefit of the joint military force” and added, “It was a highly exploratory meeting at the technical level, and so far, no significant developments have occurred.”
Previously, the French intelligence website “Africa Intelligence” revealed Paris’s readiness to host a mini-security summit focusing on Libya, chaired by the special envoy of the French President for Libya, Paul Soler, with the participation of Britain, the United States, and Italy. At the top of the agenda is the plan to establish joint military units.
On the other hand, there has been much talk about the imminent formation of the so-called “Libyan-European Corps” in the west of the country through a Western company, as the outgoing Prime Minister of the “Government of National Unity,” Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibeh, seeks to cling to power with American and Western support.
