The Libyan House of Representatives and State agreed to develop a road map for holding presidential and legislative elections with the aim of ending the political crisis in the country.
This came in a final statement of the second expanded meeting of members of the Libyan House of Representatives and State, held in Cairo, today, Thursday.
The participants in the meeting stressed the need to adhere to holding the elections in accordance with the agreed-upon laws issued by the House of Representatives.
It was agreed to develop a clear road map to reach the elections, with an emphasis on expanding the circle of national consensus.
The statement explained that the meeting aims to end the political crisis in Libya and reach solutions that contribute to the stability of the country and the strengthening of civil peace.
The attendees discussed the issue of rationalizing the political process and consulting with active forces in Libyan society.
The members affirmed their rejection of any partial solutions that might exacerbate the political division, stressing that the solution lies in reaching a complete and comprehensive consensus that guarantees the organization of free and fair elections, and putting an end to the state of chaos and division that the country is suffering from.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the importance of continuing the direct Libyan national dialogue was reiterated, and the principle of dispensing with power by imposing a fait accompli was rejected.
The members called on all national forces, political parties, and the Libyan people to support the efforts of the two councils in order to restore the security, unity, and stability of the country.
