Xavi Hernandez, coach of the Spanish team Barcelona, announced his departure from his post after the end of the current season, stressing his full support for the team as a fan after his departure.
Xavi had announced in January his intention to leave the team at the end of the season, but club president Juan Laporta persuaded him to reverse his decision last month, however, the club announced on Friday Xavi’s departure after the last league match against Sevilla.
Xavi told a press conference: “I don’t regret it, I did my best and worked with a lot of love for this club, I’m a Barcelona fan forever.”
Xavi added: “It wasn’t an easy time because of the state of the club and I’m happy because I did a good job, we won two titles, we succeeded, and we won important games.”
Xavi continued: “Laporta told me that he thinks the club needs a change of direction and I accepted that, he is the one who decides, I have no choice I am one of the men of the club.”
Xavi concluded: “I used to believe in the team and that we can do a lot of things but that didn’t happen, I wish Laporta more luck and from now on I will be just another fan of the team.”
It is noteworthy that Xavi led his team to the Spanish league title last season in his first full season, but the team will end the current season 12 points behind champions Real Madrid in the standings this season.
Former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansie Flick is expected to take over from Xavi soon.
