FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City will host the opening match of the 2026 World Cup on June 11, while the final will be held in New Jersey, United States on July 19.
The Azteca Stadium will go down in history as the first stadium to host the opening match of the World Cup three times after 1970 and 1986.
The 2026 World Cup will be the first World Cup to be held jointly organized in three countries, the United States, Canada and Mexico, and its matches will be played on 16 stadiums in the three countries.
The number of teams participating in the World Cup has increased from 32 to 48 teams from the next edition in 2026, so they will play 104 matches instead of 64.
