The local unit of Ras El Bar City Council in Egypt issued warnings via loudspeakers to vacationers to avoid going to the beaches, due to the high waves and unprecedented water withdrawal.

This warning came after vacationers were surprised by a strong water withdrawal at dawn on Saturday, which led to water flooding the cafes area and submerging some homes, causing panic among visitors.

Local authorities reported that the situation is under control, indicating that the strong water withdrawal is the main reason behind this phenomenon, and urged citizens not to swim at this time for their safety.

The phenomenon of “powerful water currents” in the sea, known as “rip currents,” are strong and “narrow currents” that form on beaches. This occurs when water accumulated from waves on the shore rapidly returns to the sea through narrow channels between waves or sandbars.1
