Experts at “Kaspersky Lab” warned of an escalation in attempts by hackers to hack into the accounts of “Telegram” application users through new fraudulent methods.
Experts explained that pirates are sending fraudulent messages targeting users in Russia, deluding them with the possibility of withdrawing digital currencies from the game “Hamster Kombat” and converting them into rubles.
These messages trick users into entering their “Telegram” accounts via a specific link and entering their electronic account data. Through this process, hackers are able to steal and hack account data.
Olga Svistonova, senior content analyst at Kaspersky Lab, explained that the fraudulent messages deceive users that the money transfer process will take place within 15 minutes after logging in via the sent link.
Svistonova added: “To protect your Telegram account, it is important to set up a two-factor authentication system to log in, and not click on links in suspicious messages.”
Reports indicated that phishing attempts against “Telegram” users increased by 22% in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, which requires taking additional measures for electronic protection.
