The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has warned of the risk of disintegration following the withdrawal of countries led by military councils ,Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger and their signing of the Sahel Alliance treaty.

The head of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray, revealed the serious consequences resulting from this withdrawal, as freedom of movement and a common market that includes 400 million people are among the most prominent advantages of the bloc, which is about 50 years old.

He added that financing economic projects worth more than $500 million in the three countries will stop as a result of the withdrawal.

Touray stressed before the ECOWAS summit held in Abuja that disintegration will not only affect the freedom of movement and population assembly, but will also increase insecurity in the region, noting that the withdrawal of the three countries will hinder security cooperation, especially with regard to the exchange of intelligence information and participation in combating terrorism. “terrorism”

It is noteworthy that the ECOWAS organization, which was established on May 28, 1975, under the Lagos Treaty, with the aim of promoting economic integration among member states, has faced in recent years the challenges of terrorism and poverty, and the countries that withdrew from it accuse it of implementing French policies.
