The Chairman of the House of Representatives Defense and National Security Committee, Talal Al-Mayhoub, warned of the repercussions of the American role in supporting armed factions in the western region.
Al-Mayhoub indicated, according to what was reported by the “Libya News 24” website, that Washington is seeking to form a “European-Libyan Legion,” which threatens stability in the country.
Al-Mayhoub explained that the American agenda is based on strengthening its influence in the region by supporting armed groups, which is clearly rejected by the Libyan people, who are demanding elections as a way out of the crisis and makes achieving consensus between the Libyan parties regarding elections and unifying the military institution difficult.
Al-Mayhoub also stressed the urgent need for a unified position by the Libyan parties to confront external interference and promote national dialogue and internal consensus and asked the international community to support the democratic process in Libya instead of interfering in its affairs.
A number of reports indicate that the United States is the main sponsor of the European-Libyan Legion initiative, with the participation of European countries in the initiative, with the likely participation of France and Italy. The Legion is supposed to form a military force in western Libya, and aims to secure oil fields, combat terrorism, and help in expanding… Control the country.
