The battles in the Al-Fasher area of North Darfur state have begun to take their large share of lives and destruction, with 123 people killed during the past two weeks.
Many displaced people took refuge in areas controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid Nour, in light of the continuing clashes.
Doctors Without Borders confirmed in a statement on Sunday that a member of its team was killed as a result of the artillery shelling that targeted his house in the center of El Fasher, the state capital.
According to its estimates, the death toll has reached 123 people, with more than 930 injured as a result of fighting in the city over the past two weeks.
While the battles continue in El Fasher, newly displaced people are arriving in other areas in North Darfur state, as stated by the spokesman for the General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugees Camps in Darfur. These displaced people are fleeing the ongoing battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, to find shelter in the town of Tawila, which is located west of El Fasher. .
The fighting and indiscriminate bombing are causing the deterioration of the humanitarian and health situation of civilians in the region, the decline of health services in the camps for the displaced, the difficulty of accessing drinking water, in addition to the rise in the prices of goods and food, all of this makes the need for urgent humanitarian intervention more urgent.
The warring forces continue to exchange attacks, as forces loyal to the army succeeded in repelling them over the past two weeks, and the Rapid Support Forces failed to achieve any victory at a time when civilians are suffering great losses, especially as a result of indiscriminate bombing targeting residential neighborhoods.
In an attempt to escalate the situation, the Sudanese Army Air Force bombed the Zarq military base of the Rapid Support Forces.
Meanwhile, fighting renewed in El Fasher between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in more civilian casualties.
The forces loyal to the army and the combined force of the movements were able to achieve progress against the Rapid Support Forces, expelling them outside the eastern borders of the city of El Fasher.
However, tensions remain high, requiring greater international efforts to achieve peace and restore stability in the region.
