The Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, discussed with officials at the US State Department the developments in the political, economic and security situation in Libya.

During a series of meetings that took place last Monday in Washington, Khoury discussed with the US Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, Ambassador Michelle Sison, and her colleagues the political process in Libya and the need to unify state institutions, according to the UN mission’s statement on its “Facebook” page.

The discussions touched on adopting a better approach to migration governance, and both sides stressed that dialogue is the way to adopt a “consensual budget.”

In a subsequent meeting with the Acting US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, John Bass, Khoury discussed ways to advance the political process in Libya leading to elections.

The two parties stressed the importance of the role that the international community must play in coordination with the UN mission to support the Libyans’ efforts to preserve Libya’s unity and sovereignty.
