The Ministry of Labor announced significant progress in reducing unemployment rates in the country, which fell from 13% in 2014 to 7% this year.
Heba Ahmed, director of the ministry’s General Department of Employment, noted that this improvement reflects the great attention the government pays to employment issues.
In statements to the Egyptian channel “Sada Al-Balad”, Ahmed said that the ministry has provided more than 3,400 new job opportunities in 55 companies distributed over 16 governorates, in addition to creating 14,000 job opportunities specifically for people with special needs.
She noted that young job seekers can take advantage of the opportunities available through the ministry’s official website or through its Facebook page.
Ahmed stressed that the growth in job opportunities comes as a result of major projects implemented by the state, which contributes to the absorption of employment effectively and permanently.
Unemployment rates in Egypt in 2020 were about 9.6% during the first quarter and rose to about 9.7% in the second quarter due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the rate began to decline gradually during the second half of the year.
In 2021, Egypt witnessed a continuous decline in the unemployment rate, reaching about 7.4% by the end of the year, and the decline continued in 2022 to reach 7.2%, and during 2023, the unemployment rate continued to decline, recording 7.1% in the third quarter.
The decline in unemployment rates is due to the growth of some sectors within the labor market, where the administrative and office sectors witnessed growth in job production, such as customer service, information technology, software development, sales and retail, marketing, advertising, and public relations.
