A United Nations report indicated that 17 people died in incidents caused by explosive devices in Libya last year, including 14 children.

The report issued by the United Nations Mine Action Service documented 193 incidents caused by improvised explosive devices during the past three years, resulting in the death of 147 people and the injury of 243 others.

Nearly 1.4 million square meters of affected areas have been cleared, including schools, power stations and residential areas in Tripoli, the report said.

From 22 to 24 April, UNMAS made a presentation on “Standardization of Mine Action Training Materials” at the 7th meeting of the Scientific Committee of the 5+5 Humanitarian Demining Training Centre.

The meeting included several discussions, the most important of which is the unification of national standards in Libya with international standards, in addition to a visual presentation on standards related to mine clearance for humanitarian purposes, and enhancing capacity building to implement training programs that contribute to the clearance of mines and remnants of war.
