Following his arrival in Port Sudan on his first visit since being appointed, UN Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Sudan Ramtane Lamamra began official discussions with Sudanese officials.
According to diplomatic sources, Lamamra will meet with Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, and a number of officials, including Ali Al Sadiq, Sudanese Foreign Minister-Designate, to discuss ending the war in Sudan and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country.
The sources confirmed that the visit focuses on the United Nations efforts to improve the humanitarian conditions in Sudan.
Last November, Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres announced the appointment of Former Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra as his personal envoy to Sudan.
