The US envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, said he followed with interest the preparatory meeting for the National Conference for Libyan National Reconciliation scheduled for this spring.
Norland added in a tweet on the US embassy’s X account that he had discussed with Libyan Presidential Council MP Abdullah Lafi and Congolese Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso on the political crisis, noting that the United States looks forward to working with the Presidential Council and the African Union to support this vital aspect of the political process.
The U.S. envoy noted that reconciliation at the national and local levels is essential to lay the foundations for sustainable peace in Libya.
The fourth meeting of the preparatory committee for the National Reconciliation Conference was held in Zuwara on January 14 and 15, with the participation of the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batelli.
