U.S Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland met with the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation , Farhat Bengdara, to discuss the current halt in production at the Sharara oil field.
In a tweet on his “X” account, Norland stressed that oil production in Libya is the country’s economic lifeline, and that halting production harms all Libyans.
The U.S envoy stressed the importance of preserving the independence and technocratic integrity of the National Oil Corporation.
The National Oil Corporation had previously announced the start of a partial reduction in production from the Sharara field due to force majeure conditions resulting from the sit-ins of the “Fezzan Movement” group.
The halt in oil production has a significant impact on the Libyan economy, as it relies on oil as a major source of national income, and international and local efforts are seeking to find solutions to resume production and ensure the continued flow of oil in a stable manner, which contributes to achieving economic and political stability in the country.
