Chinese police said on Tuesday that two people were killed and 21 injured in a knife attack on a hospital in southwest China.
“On May 7, 2024, at around 11:37 a.m. (03:37 GMT), a knife attack took place at Chengnan Hospital in Chuncheong Province that killed two people and injured 21 others,” local police in Yunnan province said in a statement.
Police confirmed that an investigation was underway for a suspected man from a nearby town, adding that the wounded were being treated at hospital.
Mass crimes are rare in China, which prevents its citizens from owning firearms, but in recent years, there has been a wave of stabbing incidents.
Last August, two people were killed and seven injured in Yunnan province, and the previous month, six people were killed and another injured in a stabbing incident at a kindergarten in southern China’s Guangdong province.
