Tunisian jazz musician Dhafer Youssef performs as part of the “Jazz Over the Yenisei” festival in the eastern Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.
The festival’s artistic director, Igor Butman, a Russian jazz musician, explained that Youssef is visiting Krasnoyarsk for the first time, and added that opera singer Khibla Gerzmava will also present a jazz program.
This year’s festival program includes performances in 6 cities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and for the first-time musicians will perform on the stage of the Siberian Federal University.
The Russian Krasnoyarsk region hosts this festival from June 28 to 30, and its program includes 11 concerts.
The festival will open on June 28 at the Grand Philharmonic Theater, where Dhafer Youssef, the Tunisian oud player, singer and composer, will perform tunes that combine European jazz with his own Mediterranean musical style.
At the conclusion of the festival, Khibla Gerzmava will give a concert with the jazz band led by Sergei Mikheev.
It is noteworthy that Dhafer Youssef was born in Tunisia in 1967, studied music in Vienna, then moved to New York, won the “Edison” music award, and twice won the “BBC” award in the world music category.
