Perez Trabelsi, head of the organizing body for the annual visit of Jews to the Ghriba synagogue in Tunisia, announced the cancellation of a Jewish pilgrimage to the Djerba synagogue and the Passover celebrations due to the war on Gaza.
Trabelsi said in an interview with the Reuters news agency that the committee decided to reduce the annual pilgrimage to only limited rituals inside the temple, and expected very few pilgrims to arrive from France, given the tense situation in the Middle East.
“How can we celebrate when people lose their lives every day?”
The southern Djerba synagogue is a destination for Jewish holidays, with the annual pilgrimage attracting thousands of Jews annually from Israel and many European countries.
