Members of the Political Bureau of the Free Constitutional Party in Tunisia insisted on the decision to submit the candidacy file of party leader Abir Moussi for the upcoming presidential elections despite the challenges.

The party confirmed that the file of their candidate faces difficulties beyond the scope of the committee, the political bureau, and the defense committee.

Ali Al-Bajawi, head of the defense committee for Abir Moussi and a member of the party’s political bureau, explained that the party submitted a request for authorization to the judiciary in accordance with the procedures of the Independent High Authority for Elections, but this request was rejected. The request to withdraw the form submitted by the party was also rejected.

Al-Bajawi stressed that the rejection of the requests made the process of submitting the candidacy application impossible, but despite this, the party will submit the candidacy application, considering that the authority’s procedures do not guarantee equal opportunities between candidates.

Karim Krifa, a member of Abir Moussi’s defense committee, announced that the party will nominate only Abir Moussi for the presidential elections. Krifa indicated that Moussi will express her position on these elections even from behind bars

The Summer Criminal Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance decided to postpone the consideration of the case filed by the Independent High Authority for Elections against Abir Moussi to the session of July 29 and issued a warrant for her imprisonment.

This case began when the investigating judge of the Tunis Court of First Instance issued a warrant for her imprisonment following a complaint filed by the Independent High Authority for Elections against her due to a media statement made by Moussi about the Authority.

The investigating judge decided to refer Moussi to the Criminal Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance to try her on charges of spreading false news and misleading rumors.
