A patrol belonging to the intelligence units in the National Guard area in the state of Nabeul foiled a smuggling operation of military uniforms in northeastern Tunisia.
A statement issued by the National Guard stated that one of its units was able, during a surveillance patrol, to seize a light truck belonging to a company with 11 decorated military uniforms inside. The statement explained that after investigating the driver, the source of the uniforms based in Siliana was identified.
The statement added that coordination was made with the intelligence units in the National Guard area in Siliana, and after consulting the Public Prosecution, the security units raided the company’s headquarters, where another quantity of military uniforms was seized.
The statement indicated that the Public Prosecution was reviewed, which authorized the necessary legal measures to be taken regarding the company owner.
It is noteworthy that since the 2011 revolution, the nature of the tasks of the security institution has changed, and the army has begun to assume new roles, including securing agricultural crops and sensitive facilities.
