Tunisian authorities announced that for cars with a Libyan number plate to enter the country, they must posses the Orange Insurance Card, issued electronically, starting from January 2024.
Bureau Unifie Automobile Tunisien General Manager Ahmed Hadroug explained that the reason for adopting this measure, comes in response to the General Arab Insurance Federation , being the entity supervising the management of the unified insurance card system, known as the Orange Card, in addition to keeping pace with technological developments and reducing cases of forgery of international insurance cards.
In a statement to the Tunisian News Agency, Hadroug said that the General Arab Insurance Federation launched a project related to the electronic issuance of Orange Cards, which enable unified Arab offices and insurance institutions to issue cards through this system, with the possibility of verifying the accuracy of the data contained therein by accessing the union’s platform by reading the QR code (quick response code.)
He added that this system enables car drivers from both Libya and Algeria to download a copy of the Orange Card on their phones or personal computers, as well as print a paper copy of the cards and present it at Customs Operations Center at land and sea borders.
