A young man in his thirties died in the city of Jarzouna in the governorate of Bizerte, northern Tunisia, after setting himself on fire following a family dispute.

Tunisian radio station “Mosaique FM” reported that the man, who was married and had two children, suffered severe burns that caused his death, without providing further details about the circumstances of the incident.

For its part, a radio report indicated that the victim had been unemployed since the closure of the sugar factory in Bizerte in November 2022, which was his only source of income.

The closure of the factory affected about 400 workers, leading to their dismissal and leaving them in a state of technical unemployment.

At the same time, the National Institute of Statistics indicated that the unemployment rate in Tunisia reached 16.2% in the first quarter of 2024, highlighting the economic and social pressures facing the country.
