Four people have died, and more than forty others have been poisoned by ingestion of adulterated alcohol in southern Tunisia.
AFP quoted the spokesman for the Medenine court in southern Tunisia, Fathi Baccouche, as saying that this was the result of “drinking alcohol containing toxic substances.”
Baccouche added that an investigation has been opened into the incident and the person who supplied the injured with this substance has been arrested, pending the issuance of laboratory tests.
The majority of the injured were discharged from hospital, while cases were transferred to a hospital in the capital Tunis.
Some in popular neighborhoods in the capital Tunis and in the interior of the country, where poverty and unemployment rates are high, resort to buying and consuming alcohol illegally due to their low price, according to the agency “AFP”.
