The Tunisian government on Tuesday signed a 250-million-euro ($271 million) deal with Chinese road and bridge complex Sichuan to build a bridge in the Mediterranean city of Bizerte.
The project will be financed by loans from the African Development Bank Group and the European Investment Bank.
Bizerte is currently connected to most parts of Tunisia, including the capital, by a bridge that is closed daily to allow ships to pass.
The new bridge will pass through a strategic location between Lake Bizerte and the Mediterranean Sea and is expected to extend for 2.07 kilometers and reach a height of 56 meters and will support the economic activity of the region by facilitating access to the city’s port and stimulating local development.
