Ambassador Tarek Ladeb, Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations, pledged Tunisia’s continued commitment to supporting and protecting the interests of the African continent.
During his speech in New York on Saturday, he referred to Tunisia’s efforts to promote peace, security, and development across the continent, according to a statement issued by the Tunisian mission.
In a seminar organized by the African Union Mission in New York, Ladeb reviewed the role played by Tunisia during its membership in the UN Security Council for the period 2020-2021, and its contribution to strengthening African cooperation within the Council.
He stressed that the elected Group of African States was an effective platform for coordination and highlighting African challenges, stressing the importance of strengthening relations between the Security Council and the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.
The literature also showed Tunisia’s support for the principle of “African solutions to African challenges”, explaining that his country is interested in the issues of the African continent addressed by the Security Council.
Tunisia was a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the fourth time (2020-2021) and was committed to linking recovery to the world and helping the African continent resolve conflicts and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
