The Tunisian Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training called on the interim national unity government in Libya to enhance cooperation in the fields of training and financing small projects through joint work programs.

This came during a meeting between the Tunisian Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Lotfi Diab, with the Minister of Labor, Ali Al-Abed, and the Minister of Education, Moussa Al-Magarif, on the sidelines of the high-level regional meeting on youth education and developing their skills, which Tunisia hosted on June 26 and 27.

The meeting discussed mechanisms for enhancing and developing joint cooperation in the field of work and vocational rehabilitation, with a focus on activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries.

Lotfi Diab appreciated the role of the Libyan Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation in organizing the labor market and settling the conditions of foreign workers, including Tunisian workers.

The Tunisian minister stressed the importance of joint cooperation between the two countries through the contribution of Tunisian institutions to Libyan infrastructure projects and attracting Tunisian labor in various fields.

Al-Abed stressed the depth of the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries, expressing Libya’s desire to benefit from the Tunisian experience in the field of employment and vocational training and attracting specialized Tunisian labor.

The two parties agreed to begin preparing an implementation plan that includes electronic connectivity and organizing the labor market between the two countries, reducing irregular migration, preparing trainers and exchanging experiences in the field of training and vocational qualification.

The memorandum of understanding aims to organize training courses according to the needs of the two countries, twinning training centers, exchanging trainers, programs for job seekers, integrating young people into the labor market, and supporting the private sector to benefit from higher qualifications between the two countries.

A study conducted by the General Administration of the Tunisian-Libyan Bank on the Tunisian workforce in Libya late last year revealed the presence of 84,000 Tunisian employees in Libya, and an application is currently being prepared that allows them to transfer their money directly from Libya, with the aim of facilitating exchange operations and their conditions during transactions.
