Tunisia’s Independent High Authority for Elections began receiving applications from candidates for the presidential elections scheduled for October 6 on Monday, and the process of receiving applications will continue until August 6.
Earlier this month, Tunisian President Kais Saied announced his candidacy for a second term, setting the date for the presidential elections in October.
The Tunisian presidential race is witnessing widespread interest from politicians and public figures, as many of them have announced their intention to run.
According to Tunisian law, candidates must obtain a recommendation form from the authority’s headquarters themselves and collect recommendations from voters. As of last Friday, more than 80 people had applied to obtain recommendation forms, according to Tunisian media reports.
Tunisian electoral law requires each candidate to collect at least 10,000 recommendations from voters from at least ten electoral districts, or obtain ten recommendations from members of parliament, the Council of Regions and Districts, or local, regional or municipal councils.
The Tunisian Presidency confirmed that President Kais Saied issued an order calling on the people to participate in the presidential elections on Sunday, October 6, 2024, according to the Tunisian News Agency.
