Former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok called on the Sudanese army leadership to meet urgently to discuss ways to stop the war and save Sudan from disintegration.
“We are not the only country that is experiencing war, but it is the living peoples who turn disasters into opportunities to create a brilliant future, so I renew my call to the leadership of the armed forces for an urgent meeting in which we can reflect on ways to stop the war and save our country from fragmentation,” Hamdok said on platform X on Wednesday.
He expressed satisfaction at reaching a declaration in Addis Ababa with the Rapid Support Forces, saying that “its results will inevitably help us in efforts to stop the war in Sudan.”
He pointed out that the most important results of his meeting in Addis Ababa are the full readiness of the Rapid Support Forces for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, measures to protect civilians, facilitate the return of citizens to their homes, deliver humanitarian aid and cooperate with the fact-finding committee.
During his meetings with RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Hamdok said, he held a frank Sudanese discussion about the senseless war, its catastrophic effects and the scourge of civilians throughout the country.
Hemedti announced Tuesday during a meeting with Hamdok in Addis Ababa that he was “ready to conclude a peace agreement today before tomorrow,” saying that “the other side is not ready for that,” referring to the Sudanese army.
The war between the army and the RSF erupted in April 2023 after weeks of tension between the two sides over disagreements over plans to integrate the RSF into the army, while military and civilian parties were finalizing an internationally backed political process.
