Panic prevailed in the northwestern part of Libya, after news circulated that a dangerous tiger had fled from its owner in the city of Misrata.

Security authorities issued a statement stating that a tiger escaped from its owner in the northwestern city of Misrata during a photo shoot, warning residents of the importance of reporting when seeing the tiger.

The security forces moved in an intensive search for the tiger, after several reports from citizens who saw the tiger moving freely around the city, and the tiger is still at large, which increased the fears of the people.

The incident has once again sparked controversy over the issue of domestic breeding, with calls for legislation banning them outside zoos and deterrent penalties for violators.

Libya has seen a recent rise in the number of domesticated predators, and lions and tigers are seen walking in streets and public squares, particularly in the city of Misrata and the capital Tripoli.
