Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali have announced their decision to withdraw from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The three countries explained in a joint statement that their decision was due to the transformation of ECOWAS into “a threat to member states and their peoples as a result of the influence of foreign countries on them,” and that it did not provide the necessary support in the fight against terrorism and imposed illegal sanctions.
For its part, ECOWAS announced that it is ready to seek solutions through negotiations, noting that it has not received official notification from Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali regarding this decision.
