Zeynep Çelik, 22, won the title of Turkey’s youngest mayor after winning as an independent candidate in the local elections of a town in Çanakkale province.

Çelik participated in the local elections for the town of “Kalkim” in the “Yinji” district of Çanakkale province.

The young woman comes from the family of Mehmet Çelik, who is known in Yinji business circles.

After the announcement of the preliminary results, Zainab expressed her gratitude to the citizens for their trust and support, stressing that she will live up to their expectations and that this victory is an achievement for everyone.

Local elections were held in Turkey on the thirty-first of last March, where the opposition Republican People’s Party won a major victory by winning the main cities of Istanbul and Ankara.

The Republican People’s Party led with over 37% of the votes nationwide in the preliminary results, followed by the ruling Justice and Development Party with about 35%, and the newly formed Welfare Party came third with approximately 6% of the votes.
