Israel has submitted a proposal to Egypt to give it the right to tighten controls at the border corridor between it and the Gaza Strip, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper, citing senior Egyptian officials, reported that Israel had presented an initiative to install sensors along the Philadelphia Corridor, the section under Egypt’s control on the border with the Gaza Strip.

The newspaper reported that Israel also submitted a proposal to provide direct notifications in the event of activation of the sensor and grant it the right to send reconnaissance drones to this area.

Israeli authorities intend to monitor this sector in anticipation of the resumption of tunnels by the Palestinian Hamas movement for the smuggling of weapons and people, as the Philadelphia corridor was supposedly actively used before the tunnels were destroyed by Israeli forces.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously announced that the country will not stop military operations until Hamas is eliminated and noted that the Israeli army has also received instructions from the government to return the hostages and ensure that Gaza will not pose a threat to the country in the future.
