The American command raised the alert level in a number of its bases spread across Europe to the second highest alert level, “Charlie,” according to American media reports.

This decision came in light of an incident or intelligence information indicating the possibility of a terrorist threat targeting individuals or facilities.

American media reported, citing unnamed officials, that this step comes as a precautionary measure to enhance security at American bases in Europe. The US Army explained on its website that the “Charlie” alert level is determined when there is a possibility of a terrorist act.

Although the US European Command (USEUCOM) did not officially confirm the change in alert level upon inquiry from Agence France-Presse, it stressed the importance of remaining vigilant.

The “Pentagon” indicated that there are a number of factors that may affect the safety and security of American service members and their families in Europe, prompting the US European Command to redouble its efforts to enhance vigilance during the summer months.

In the same context, the US State Department issued a warning to its citizens in Germany, which includes the headquarters of the US European Command, of the need to be extremely cautious regarding terrorist threats.

It is noteworthy that France has also raised its level of preparedness in preparation for the Olympic Games in Paris, while Germany is currently hosting an international football tournament.
